Chicago has very strict gun laws, can anyone tell me why it also has such a high homicide rate?

Because criminals don't give a damn about laws. Those are for their victims who chose to obey them.... Just makes it easier for them to commit their crimes....

But as long as they keep it in 'da hood, I'm not really that concerned....

Because crooked men go down there and sell young black men guns to defend themselves and stay alive. Then all the bad talk about them fighting for their lives.

Short version: most of those very strict gun laws have been stripped away by Republicans. New York actually has stricter gun laws than Chicago now...and much less gun violence. And while it's not that easy to get a gun in Chicago, it is remarkably easy to get one in Indiana (a red state, formerly governed by VP Mike Pence) and drive back to Chicago with it.

Yes. As it has been explained multiple multiple times today... Chicago may have strict gun laws but the neighboring states do not. It is very easy to cross state lines and buy a gun. Missouri, the state where I live, has among the most lax gun laws in the country.
