When does Cult become a Religion?

It seems to require a large number of members to be accepted as a religion.

If every religion had less than a million members then there would likely be no distinction at all between "cult" and "religion".

If you look at the definition, there is no difference between the two.

However, people often describe the cult they are in as a religion, while all other religions are cults.

when their charismatic leader asking you to give them your money and live on a farm dies. once they have a past prophet like jesus or something then they are a religion. but while their supposedly supernatural leader is still alive, they are dangerous cults.

When it fits the criteria for a 'religion'

Those criteria are:

1. a distinct legal existence,

2. a recognized creed and form of worship,

3. a definite and distinct ecclesiastical government,

4. a formal code of doctrine and discipline

5. a distinct religious history,

6. a membership not associated with any other church or denomination,

7. an organization of ordained ministers,

8. ordained ministers selected after completing prescribed studies,

9. a literature of its own,

10. established places of worship,

11. regular congregations,

12. regular religious services,

13. schools for religious instruction of the young,

14. school for the preparation of its ministers.

When it has a deity and becomes popular.

All religions are cults.

All cults are not religions. But they still operate in the same dishonest was as religion.
