What's an original idea that a FPS shooter can do?
I ask this because a lot of people lately have been criticizing FPS games as all being unoriginal. While at the same time not giving any tips or ideas themselves. It's like they're hypocritical

Your gun shoots paint instead of bullets.... oh wait, thats already been done

FPS is merely another type of genre, along with platformer, hack and slash, turn based RPG, ect. If a game extends itself beyond just shooting, and involves different mechanics, then that's fine.
What is unoriginal though, are games like CoD and Battlefield, who release the same cookie cutter game time and time again, with little to no changes besides graphics. Not only are they just so bland and unoriginal, it's the same game again and again, so it's all the more noticeable.
When it comes down to it, There's nothing wrong with an FPS, so long as it's more than just an FPS.

Well seeing as how most FPS games that keep coming out are part of a series of FPS games (like COD) then yeah, it's pretty unoriginal and repetitive.
