Does strengthening your core/abs make you run faster?

So I am continuously trying to strengthen my core so I can get faster and become a better football player. If I keep it up, will I eventually become a faster and better runner?

To be a good runner, you must develop your core muscles, so your overall torso will not be straining as you move forward. But having strong core muscles alone will not translate into more speed. To be faster you need to develop your fast twitch muscles in your legs. That means intense speed workouts.

    No.

It would maybe help you if you were running in the Mountain, but on a football field certainly not.

But it can help you to more easily change directions or to deal better with a collision, or even to send the ball far and strong.
