You can't necessarily rely on the style name to know if it's real or not. There are no legalities that prevent someone from saying their style is "true Okinawan" or their kung fu is "traditional". I guess what I'm saying is the proof is in the pudding.
Generally speaking however, Gojuru Karate is still good, and most any style of Kung fu is good.

True Combative/fighting arts are many from different cultures and time. Martial mean military and had intentions on the use of the battlefield, such as kendo or military based use in an art. Combative/fighting art are often referred to as "martial arts."
The most promoted to true martial arts are those cultivated in Okinawa/Japan. Art such as Shotokan are very real and one can see if you just look up karate kumite (fighting) and we will see in the 2020 Olympics. As much as they try, Taekwondo is never karate at all. Yet, they are sure to sceem, "YES IT IS, YES IS IT..."

Depends on what you look for towards a martial art. I like Judo and Karate myself. If you look for something useful in the streets for defending yourself look towards Muay thai, Bj or boxing
