  • How to go about teaching?

I'm looking for the advice of others who have done the same. The kung Fu school I was attending recently closed. My Sifu's health isn't the best, and we didn't have many members to start with.

I loved teaching the other students and have been giving thought to either starting my own school or offering private lessons. I'm not a business minded person and really have no idea where to start.

I'm not going to do anything without my Sifu's blessing first, though I've know other black sash students to advertise private lessons on free classified ad sites.

  • Why is the postal service so inefficient?

I live in southern Ontario and I ordered a Christmas gift through eBay from a seller in New York State. As I watched the tracking history over the last few days, I can see it went from New York to Further away to New Jersey, to further still Kentucky, and then slightly closer to Ohio.

If anyone knows their geography, they know I could have driven to New York, picked up the item myself and driven home in less than a day.

So why do they play hot potato with packages so much? It seems so inefficient.

  • Anyone know xiaolin forms?

My Sifu has been in martial arts for 50 years now and he says he's forgotten more forms than he remembers (and believe me, he remembers a lot). Some time ago he taught me a form that he only remembers as 'xiaolin number 1'. Though he's tried, he can't recall the proper name of the form.

It's a pretty short form that opens with a foot stomp and a jumping-jack like grab escape and end with 'stork spreads wings'.

Any ideas what it the proper name might be?

  • What is you opinion of qi (chi)?

I've studies martial arts most of my adult life, and for the last few years my focus has been on Chinese / Korean martial arts. The topic of Qi has been coming up a lot lately, and I'm not really sure I believe in and / or understand what it really is.

Is it just an old understanding of bio-mechanical energy, or is there a spiritual element to it? I have a hard time with accepting the "spiritual energy" belief.

  • Any hot tub experts out there?

I bought a used hot tub, hooked it up, and here's what happened. First it gave me an error FL 1. I googled it to find out that it means the pump wasn't primed (obviously as I hadn't yet put water in). So I filled it and the the water was circulating nicely, but now the error code changed to ICE. I looked that up to and it means there is a risk of ice forming. I figured that error was to be expected as the water going in read 40 deg F, and the minimum set point is 65. I noticed a little red LED come on, which I presume means it was heating, and indeed it was as the temperature rose about 6 degrees over the next hour. Being that this was about 8:30 last night, I figured it wouldn't have nearly enough time to get up to 100 before I go to be, so I set it to 65 (the minimum and let it go all night.

Early this morning, I noticed the temperature had reached 65, and the water was noticeably warmer that the air outside. The pump wasn't running any more, but it did turn on when I pressed the button. So everything seemed to be working well.... here's where the trouble starts:

I decided to get it warming up to 80, so it wouldn't have to far to go when I got home from work, so I turned it up to 80 and went about my morning routine. I checked it an hour later before I left for work to see how it was progressing, but it temperature hadn't changed at all... It was still 65, and there was no LED indicating it was hearing up. So what could be wrong?

  • Skyrim looks up suddenly...?

So while playing skyrim (pc version), I lose control of the mouse and my view slowly moves vertical until im looking at the sky/ ceiling. I can't look down, all I can do is spin around looking at the sky. Unplugging and replugging the mouse fixes this for about 30 seconds and then it happpens again. This started happening after I installed dawnguard. Is there a patch or fix for this?

  • ohm's law and motor question?

I used to understand this stuff pretty good, now I can only remember enough to be dangerous. Basically, I have a motor turning at about 340 RPM. It pulls 8 amps at 110 VAC. I want to incorperate a resistor into the circuit to reduce the speed by half (at least), so I know I have to reduce the POWER to the motor (currently 880 watts), but here where I get confused. If I throw in a resistor, will it just pull more amps, or will it slow it down proportionately?

    I'm stuck trying to re-teach myself ohm's law. So if R=V/I, then in my case R= 110/8 = 13.75

so does that mean I already have 13.75 ohms of resistance, or that's how much I need to reduce the voltage to 0?

Could someone walk me through this and help me calculate how much resistance I would need to reduce the speed by half? I sould mention it's a reversable motor with a capacator (if that matters, I don't know).

  • About the Canada Child Tax Benefit?

About 3 weeks ago I had a baby boy. After a few days I got around to going online to register him and get his SIN card, birth certificate, and apply for the Canada child tax benefit. Somewhere on the many government webpages I read that the benefit was due to pay out on Jan. 20th (about 2 weeks after I applied).

The thing is, I'm set up to receive my tax returns and HST cheques by direct deposit, so I assumed this would also be directly deposited, but so far, nothing.

Do they just mail out the benefit, or is it just going to take more time to process my application before I see anything?

  • ACCESS & REPORTS VBA?

Alright, I have a bunch of data contained in arrays which has been manipulated by VBA from tables.

I need to put populate a report with this data. I've managed to make the report just fine, with all the labels showing up, but I just can't get the data down.

    I have tried:

    Adding & populating:

    -combo boxes,

    -list boxes

-text boxes -- all of which generated an error something like, "this property is not available in design view"

I've also tried the me.print function, which results in a different error.

Don't question why I'm using VBA, just trust me, it's necessary.

    P.S

I'm new to the Access environment, and thus far hate databases. So please no SQL bull crap.

  • MS ACCESS -- VBA & REPORTS?

Ok, I have a database which contains data which HAD to be manipulated using VBA (don't ask me why, just trust me, it was necessary). I've managed to populate A series of arrays with all of the data I need to display on a report (the report already exists, the code executes on the report activation).

My question is, how do display the data in my arrays in the report. I should mention that I'm good with VBA, but a COMPLETE newbie to Access, so no SQL jibberish please.

  • Permanent Split Capacitor motor question?

Here's the deal, I have 2 PSC motors, and I have the same problem for both. I wire it up, and I try to run it in ay direction, and I hear a click, but no movement. The motors and capacitors are old, but the wiring diagrams are very clear and simple. There are 4 wires, green (ground) white (common), red and black. In the diagram, the black and red are shown connecting to either side of the capacitor (7.5uF), the white directly to one side of the 120V AC source, and the other side of the 120V AC source connects to either the black or red (depending on whether you want clockwise or counter clockwise motion).

I'm SURE I've wired it correctly, however, I just won't go! Again, I hear it click as it it wants to go, but nothing. Is it the motor, or the capacitor? Please help

  • Do I need an E-Test done if.......?

Ok, I've got a car to sell, and I had to have it e-tested recently (less than a year ago) as part of the renewal (it has to be done every 6 years in Ontario). My question is this: Do I need to get an e-test done specifically for the sale of the vehicle, or will my recent e-test be sufficient?

Only definite answers please. Sources and references are appreciated.
