I'm thinking of making a 3.5mm jack male to male cable, I want something meaty and hardwearing, could I use standard 3 core electric cable?

If not, what would a better budget choice be, I really want to just use scraps and broken bits, not buy hi end cables. Thanks

Orange round extension cord that you get 50 ft for $12 at your local hardware store makes Wonderful 3 wire cables for audio and for video it's very strong and last a long time and it's cheap.

Easier to buy a cable (TRS stereo patch cord). Go on with your project if you can find suitable material, and be proud of your product, unless you just use scraps and broken bits. In the case of the latter, if it works, good on you.

    Amazon sells those for $3.

If you need it today, they cost about $5 in brick & mortar stores.
