UK, looking for a recommendation of a durable, reliable rechargeable work light.?
After a bit of reading around it seems that while there are many lights that give a good light, they often start to fail after a handful of uses because either the battery or the charging port becomes unreliable, as such I'd really like to hear from people that have used their lights for a long time or very frequently and have gone through a lot of charges. Thankyou
3 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)2 years agoDewalt multi tool, option one 4Ah battery or two 2Ah battery for the same price which should I choose?
I gather that the 4Ah battery on high draw tools not only lasts longer but keeps the performance at its peak, I've no direct experience of this, is this a factor on a multitool?
3 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)2 years agoin the series 'northern exposure' why do they say 'canada' instead of 'cheese' when photos are taken?
I've noticed it in a couple of episodes. is this something unique to the series, or a common thing in alaska?
2 AnswersDrama3 years agodo I need a special cable to transfer usb at 3.0 speed?
I have a 3.0 sandisk usb drive that gets really hot, to the point that I'm nervous about it damaging my port. If I use a cable so the hot drive is physically removed seperated from the port, do I need to use a special cable for maintaining the 3.0 speeds?
3 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks3 years agoI'm thinking of making a 3.5mm jack male to male cable, I want something meaty and hardwearing, could I use standard 3 core electric cable?
If not, what would a better budget choice be, I really want to just use scraps and broken bits, not buy hi end cables. Thanks
4 AnswersOther - Business & Finance3 years agocan I turn an SD card port into a usb port via a makeshift adapter?
laptop has no working usb ports. However, the card reader is still functioning, can I make up an adapter that would turn a card reader into a usb port. I want to be able to connect external hard drives and a usb mouse. I'm assuming the two work in completely different ways but if it could work it would be a nice fix
2 AnswersAdd-ons3 years agocan i power my torch with usb?
I have a torch that works on 6v, if I swap out the batteries for a usb battery pack will it operate (with a dimmer glow I assume) or just not work at all?. I have 2 torches, one is LED the other traditional bulb and I could use either, which ever would work best

1 AnswerMovies4 years agopcb etching, can I use vinegar?
I was looking into the possibility of doing some etching of pcb (as a summary I'm looking to draw out the circuit with a permanant marker, then etch off the unwanted copper with acid). As an alternative to using strong acids, I'm wondering if I can use vinegar (or even coke?) and soak the board for several hours or days?
1 AnswerChemistry4 years agoWill a cheap momentary switch be ok for an arcade controller?
found these https://www.amazon.co.uk/SODIAL-Momentary-Round-Bu...
can I use these cheap momentry switches instead of expensive purpose built arcade buttons or will they just be useless for that job?
5 AnswersOther - Hardware4 years agoDoes anyone know what this part is called? Description below.?
I'm trying to buy a DIY part, but I have no idea what it is called. It is to stop a joint from slipping, say on a lamp. Imagine a washer with grooves going from the centre to the edge, if you took two of those and put them face to face the grooves would mesh together and wouldn't slip, if you had a nut and bolt going through those washers you could tighten or loosen that joint and so make it easily adjustable. Does anyone know what those are called?
5 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)4 years agohow much weight does a microswitch take to operate?
I was thinking of making a light (reading lamp) that is turned on by a marble going down a run and landing on a microswitch, do I need to buy an especially sensitive one. Alternatively could I achieve the same thing another way? I don't want to spend a lot

4 AnswersDecorating & Remodeling4 years agohow can I get files onto a pi zero with no usb hub??
new pi Zero running raspian, no hub (yet) as mine wouldn't recognise properly, so also no wifi. I want to be able to put files onto the sd card (media, programs etc). I have access to a windows pc, and a ubuntu pc (which is a new install, I don't know ubuntu or raspbian well). With my 20:20 hindsight I realise I should have bought the pi3 as everything would be much easier with the extra usb ports and wifi.
3 AnswersComputer Networking4 years agonew setup of pi zero running raspian, what should i be able to hear?
I've a new pi zero, never had any form of pi before, i've setup rasbian through NOOBS. I don't seem to be getting any sound. I can't put an mp3 on to try as my hub won't recognise. I'm connected to my tv via a micro hdmi to hdmi (a new cable which could be at fault?). I could send the zero back for a replacement, but I really want to know if it is faulty before I do that (also I expect I'd have to wait an age for new stock).
1 AnswerDesktops4 years agowhat do I need in raspberry pi zero case?
I just ordered a pi zero for £4 and couldn't bring myself to spend £5 or more for a case, so I'm going to make my own, I doubt I'll be modding it. so just need access to the ports. How much airflow do I need at the top and bottom, do they heat up much? I was basically thinking of sandwiching the pi in between two credit card size bits of wood like this https://cdn.instructables.com/FXM/EIHU/HJKC4GLB/FX... any thoughts?

1 AnswerSoftware4 years agoId 'like to use an old mobile (vodaphone) dongle to pick up a wifi signal - is this possible?
I have a weak signal in parts of the house and have seen several designs for home made wifi receivers that essentially surround the dongle and bounce the signal to it, like a satalite dish does. do I need a differnt type of dongle for this? this sort of thing http://www.instructables.com/id/WIFI-Extender-DIY-...
