    Generally freemasons were considered to be a military arm of the Protestant religion.. The Lodge of Edinburgh (Mary's Chapel) It is reputed to be the oldest Masonic Lodge in the world. It is a Protestant church in Scotland. It dates to 1598. So Freemasonry rose from Protestantism.
