Do Youtube personalities still make money if you click on Skip Ad after a few seconds of watching their commercials?
If I might add, just watched a commercial that was about 20 seconds long. I will tolerate that. Some of these commercials are 45 minutes long! Really? 45 minutes on a bitcoin commercial?... or a Tattoo shop in California? Skip Ad. I want the author of the video to make money (not so much as to donate to Patreon) but I'll tolerate SOME interruption. Let's have some moderation here. Glad Skip Ad is available.

Yes, but it is complicated. In response to the person saying they make a lot, that isn t true.
There are different levels of advertising in videos, the beginning videos that allow you to Skip are usually at the lowest end of the monetization scale. YouTubers usually make 1 cent per 120 views, even if they skip and 3 cents if it is clicked. Some videos have multiple clips that ll play at varying intervals. Same thing. There are silent ads, like the little bars at the bottom where you can click on the X and remove the obstruction, but there is not set time for how long they are displayed. These are paid based on how long the ad is seen. The YouTuber makes significantly more if the ad is clicked.
YouTube recently had the Ad-Apocalypse, and ads were (wrongly) removed from videos. Some channels were entirely de-monetized. I have 2 channels - one for relaxation (ASMR) and one for physical therapy type exercise videos. When the ad apocalypse happened, any video that contained the word "Massage" was demonetized, and any workout video I had where my clothing had a logo, like the Nike sign, or music in the background (in a gym setting) were demonetized. A YouTuber can file a claim, but a video has to have more than 1000 views per week to be reviewed. Many small channels cannot reach this threshold on individual videos, and if a video is ever re-monetized, anyone can report it to immediately de-monetize it again.
The amounts are small, but yes, they do make a fraction of a penny. Watching it through or clicking it makes them significantly more. The YouTuber does not have control over what is played, only the ability to set how often an ad is displayed - only at the begging, every 5 minutes, silent ads, and at the ending and whether or not the "skip" option is allowed.
