I got a parking ticket when I wasn't even here?
I left school during Christmas break leaving my car in the back of the dorms. The school was not selling winter parking permits at the time I left. They started selling them early January. I bought it and came back with a temporary pass only to find I got a $54 ticket because my permit expired January 3 and I got back the 6. (School wasn't even in session then though and didn't start until January 8). I had no way of coming back to my car considering I live 8 hours away by car and plane tickets are costly and I shouldn't have to cut off family time short to put a permit on my car. Do I have a reasonable shot at appealing this?

"Do I have a reasonable shot at appealing this?" If you can come up with grounds to appeal go for it. But, from your description of the situation, you have no grounds. You left your car where you shouldn't have and you got a ticket.

Nope. The school DOESN'T CARE that you were not there. Your CAR was ILLEGALLY PARKED, and now you'll have to pay for it.

You mean do you have a reasonable shot at winning your appeal. You have full control over making the appeal, if you don't take the shot, there is no shot.
Show proof that the temporary pass covered the time between the expiration and the date you returned. Tell them that they caused this issue by not making passes available prior to breaks in the schedule.

You probably won't win with an appeal. Its just more ways schools can collect more money from students, like education in America is not cheap enough!

this shows just how little your school think about its students , the arrogance and disdain is shocking, I doubt you will be able to appeal, although 99.9% of all parking tickets are issued when the owner isn't there

Something might be able to go through but chances are is that it is your fault for this. You didn't plan on coming back in time since it expired.
