Starvation mode is a myth.
Yes our metabolism slows if we dont eat, but it comes right back to normal when we start eating.
Cut back on carbohydrates.

Try Smoothie Diet
This diet is extremely flexible so even though this program is 21 days you can continue using it for as along as you want to lose.

its very difficult to eat just 500 calories, stay sane and also not use up your muscle mass. you just need to cut out anything made with sugar and flour.

Sorry, there are no shortcuts. even for obese people.
The BEST advice you will get today is to go see your doctor. The Health Insurance companies are really getting smart. They would rather pay for a Registered Dietician and a Physical Therapist now, then for lifelong drugs and cardiac surgery later.
Some of the HMOs will even chip in for weight watchers and gym memberships.
But. If for some reason you want to do it alone, go to the library and borrow a copy of "Eat To Live". There is a six-week diet plan in it. but it also recommends a lifelong diet plan so you don't gain the weight back later.

500 is way too low. You will quickly become too weak to exercise. Aim for about 1200, made up of lean proteins, some complex carbs, and a little fat. Up your water intake. Add weight training to your exercise routine as muscle burns more calories to maintain as well as taking up less space on your body.

I think you should do around 800-900 calories instead. But before you eat anything have a cardio session in the mornings. This will use up your current fat as energy. You can also gain muscle at the same time by doing heavy compound lifts for about an hour on the days you do not do cardio. Good Luck!
