how do referees talk so loud?

i'm watching football and i am just wondering how referees can talk so loud that everyone hears them clearly even over the audience screaming at the top of their lungs.

is it just the place where they are standing that creates the best echo in the entire stadium?

If you pay attention before they talk they touch their belts. They have microphones that are amplified over the stadiums speaker system.
