Is it worth the upgrade from Cat6A to Cat7?
So I am trying to achieve the highest speed possible at my house. I currently have an ISP and am paying for "Speeds up to 100Mbps". Understandably i will not get 100 but I would like to achieve numbers close to that.
I have done speed test and am currently getting around 50Mbps.
I am wondering if upgrading to a Cat7 cable for my modem to my router.
I want to also get a new router something that will take advantage of getting those speeds.
Note I may upgrade to 300Mbps.

Unless your LAN/ Internet is over 100mbps then no. But cat 7 would future proof your connections.

Hi so distance is the usual issue with this. repeaters in the length and reduction of other devices is the other which helps.

Waste of money. Even the CAT 6 is a waste, unless you're transferring large files on your own network between devices. Cat 5e is faster then what your ISP offers.
Keep in mind, just because your ISP "offers" those speeds, that "offer" ends at your ISP. In other words, they can only guarantee that speed from your house to the ISP. Once it leaves the ISP and heads to its final destination, your speed will only be as fast as what your destination offers. Rarely is it more then 20-30 mpbs.

For a short run such as from a modem to a router.. you probably won't even be able to measure the difference. Not worth it.
But - if you are wiring a house, have any really long runs, or are running a lot of cables together, then yes I think you could justify the expense. Running Cat7 is a good future-proofing decision too, because you don't know what traffic or speeds you might see in the future, best to be prepared!
