    9.60/.75=12.80, 12.80x.25=3.20 saved, 12.80-3.20=9.60

    .

    ¾x = (£9.60)

    x = £(9.60*4/3)

    x = £12.80

    saved = £12.80 - £9.60

    saved = £3.20

    ¾x = 9.6

    ¼x = 3.2

    He saved £3.20

    If it was 1/4 off, it means the price was 75% of the original price. So the original price times 0.75 is 9.6, To get the original price, divide 9.6 by 0.75, and you get 12.8. To check it, take 1/4 of 12.8, which is 3.2 (the amount he saved) and subtract it from 12.8. The result is 9.6.
