Communism -- Is an economic system where it is the ownership by the majority (through the government) of the means of production, distribution and exchange. It is also where everyone is paid according to their needs ( a doctor and a street sweeper are paid the same). Communism does not work in large populations, only small tribal communities because people are greedy.

Socialism -- Also an economic system but is also the slow transitional phase between Capitalism and Communism, taking many many years to achieve (some say over 100 years). Everyone is paid according to their worth ( a doctor is paid much more than a street sweeper). Socialism is needed to slowly change the economy without disruption and chaos and to also change the peoples attitudes from being greedy and self-centred to being generous and community-minded.

Marxism, originating from the works of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, argues that socialism is the mid-point between capitalism and communism, with the means of production controlled by the working class but with the state guiding the economy on the workers' behalf.

Communism is dictatorship. Socialism is bankruptship.
