What happens if a stainless steel coffee cup filled with hot liquid is put in the freezer overnight?

Will the contents freeze over or will it just get cold? The cup is by Kitchen Aid. Since it is insulated my guess is it would just get cold but not freeze over. Can you confirm my guess?

If the top is open, it will freeze. If it has an insulated (double wall) lid, it may not freeze. I have a stainless steel MallowMe double wall mug, which I placed in the freezer with the lid on, and the contents (half full with soda) didn't freeze after about six hours. Without the lid, the soda freezes in about four hours.

It is hard to say, I have a yeti mug and about a cup of ice left in the bottom at night still has ice 8-10 hours , so very well insulated. I would bet boiling water in that vessel placed in the freezer would not be frozen by morning - cold maybe.

It will freeze. If there is a lid on it it could damage the cup as the moisture will expand as it freezes.
