External hard drive, internal condensation?
I just bought a new external hard drive, a 4tb unit from Seagate (This is the web page: https://www.seagate.com/consumer/backup/expansion-...
When it was delivered it sat outside in 9 degree cold for over 24 hours then brought indoors and has sat unopened for about 2 days. It is still sealed, still in the packing envelope. My question is: I know you let the unit acclimate after cold weather but could condensation have formed inside the unit? And if it did would it leave trace contaminants on the drive itself? I don't think there are any large vents on the case and I think the box is closed off to a degree, but would this still happen? If it's anywhere possible I think I'd feel better and get an exchange delivered when it's warmer. Thanks in advance!

If the whole drive is still in its sealed bag then no it cant
Drives can be stored at far lower temperatures than -9 even if not in a bag -and you cant get condensation at -9 you just get ice and you would see that on the insides of the bag (cos thats where it would freeze)
you aint gonna get an exchange unit until you can prove its not working, and you aint gonna be able to do that without taking it out of the bag
manufacturers aint interested if that makes you feel better or not

The actual drive itself is sealed. If some condensation occurred in the housing, and then dried, it should be ok. You can test this by plugging it in and seeing if it works.

Hard drives are not sealed, however after 2 days in your home to acclimatise, any condensation inside the drive will have evaporated and it will be safe to use

open the box so air can circulate and any condensation that might have developed will dry naturally. In fact thats what you probably should have done when it arrived

The hard drive itself is sealed so no moisture can get in there.
An external hard drive enclosure is not sealed and bringing a cold enclosure into a warm room could easily cause condensation if it is outside its packaging. Yours remained inside its packaging so the chances of condensation are negligible. Even if there was condensation, it would soon evaporate and could never get inside the actual hard drive itself.
It should be OK to use.
