I'm not sure there is one single word that does it... can't think of any single one offhand, anyway... Because it is such a picture-image, it usually gets a two-part description, e.g., "The crowd parted as the matador walked through it, his sword unsheathed; then came together again [behind him] as he made his way toward the bullring entrance." (Busy reading some Hemingway right now ... :-) )
