Do I still have to appear for Jury Duty if just served a month ago?

I served State Jury Duty a month ago and received my certificate of completion. I recently received another summons to appear for Jury Duty this time for United States District Court. Having already State, does this excuse me from having to do Federal? This never happened to me before.

No. You need to let them know you just served. There is a two year gap between you can be called again.

It sounds as though you got called up by federal court, so it does not matter to them if you recently served. You'll still have to serve.

Congratulations on jury duty. It is an honor and a privilege.

    Yes you need to report

You may be excused but maybe not

One was state court and the other is Federal court. So yes you do have to report for the new one.

Your jury duty is once a year, on the summons there is a contact number/email contact and inform them you have already served a month ago

Go to the federal jury duty. They pay more. And if you get a case that lasts months, you get paid and not lose your regular job.

Completely separate obligations, and completing state jury duty does not excuse you from federal jury duty. You may be able to delay your federal jury duty so call the number on the summons. Also carefully read the summons. You may only have to call in from home rather than physically report.

Probably not but it should. Talk about above and beyond the call. A District Court case could easily turn out to be a long one too, even very long. When you appear make sure to take that certificate of completion along, you might run into a clerk who takes some pity on you.

I got called for District Court once but was a full-time college student at the time so thankfully I was excused. The last thing I wanted was to sit on the jury of some tax case that went on for months.

No, it does not excuse you.
