How much does it cost to fix the electricity in the bathroom?

I was blowdrying my hair when the power went out. Only part of the bathroom went dark: the outlet, the light switch on the outlet, and the outlet where the washer and dryer are hooked up. The other set of light switches work. We tried flipping the breaker downstairs and the only thing that changed was the side still working which flickered and went back on. What could be wrong and about how much is it going to cost to fix it?

Get a few estimates.........one huge thing many don't realize the more appliances one puts on electrical panel the more amps it takes..........most homes can handle 200 amps........good luck

To hire an electrician costs arounf $75. It really depends what you need to fix - is this the lights? fixing outlets? In principle, to fix each of these items is easy and quick. For a professional it will take no more than 10-15 minutes. If the problem is more severe, like burned wires inside the walls, this would require investing more time and money.

When it comes to electricity it is not recommended to try and fix the problem by your own. Please call a professional electrician.

Hope I was able to help.

There is a GFCI receptacle somewhere on that circuit. Your dryer (assuming it is gas fired rather than electric) and washer should have their own dedicated circuit. Call a company that will give you an estimate. They will probably charge you something as it may take awhile to figure out what the issue is. If this is the case ask them if it applies to the cost of the estimate if you use them.

First reset the GFCI outlet probably the one you had drier in. There will be 2 buttons one says test one say rest. Also could be bad GFCI outlet could be bad breaker.

In the US, virtually all houses built since about 1975 have the bathroom outlet on a GFI or GFCI. somewhere. possibles include inside the breaker box itself [but you tried that, right? did you do the right one?]. else it was frequently in the closest location that needed such an outlet to the breaker box ... with the rest of the protected outlets drawing power from that one.

example: my house has two .. one in the breaker box itself [outlet outside under the breaker box and one in the guest bathroom] and a second in the master bath. That second one goes on to power an outlet on the back porch.

go around the house and test every outlet you see. look hard for the two buttons in the outlet that tells you it is a GFI/GFCI.

If that doesn't accomplish anything [and after unplugging the hair dryer], try every breaker in the box except the ones [you're in the US/Canada, right?] that are double [220v for things like the stove and hot water heater].

If that still fails, you can either get a simple $20 meter over at the hardware and test outlets yourself [remove the cover and test the wiring behind the outlet for every outlet that doesn't work] or break down and call and electrician or handyman who knows a bit about electricity. Ask your neighbors if they know such a handyman -- he'll be much cheaper than an electrician.

possible issues -- GFI/GFCIs do not last forever. It could have died and need replacing. breakers also do not last forever and one may need replacing. an outlet could have fried inside and need replacing. [long shot] one of the two incoming master breakers (at center top of breaker box) may have popped off -- leaving about half the outlets/lights in the entire house not working.

    ***

ps: do NOT use hair dryer when anything else is running on same circuit -- except the light in the bathroom that you need so you can see. A lower wattage hair dryer might get away with it ... but you've apparently got a big one.

Is this a recently new house, say less than 15 years old?

    (1) You blew the Ground Fault Interruptor. There is a little square button on the wall socket. Unplug everything, press the button on teh socket, and try again.

    (2) There are TWO Circuit Breakers downstairs for your bathroom. You flipped the wrong one.
