Why is my Kenmore Dishwasher not washing , cleaning dishes anymore?

I have about a 5 year old energy star Kenmore with turbo wash and all the other options and it will not wash dishes. I can turn it on and both top and bottom rack have all the food stuck on them as if it never went. It still sounds like it's going through the cycles and spends an hour running but when done there has been no food removal.

I have hard water and the first time it started leaving white film all over the dishes but it has eventually gotten to where it doesnt even clean them.

The little blue cleaning agent in the door doesnt help either. I've started washing dishes by hand as it basically seems like the washer never ran But I can hear water running in there.

Any Ideas?

I could be any number of reasons. Why not have an appliance service man look at it?

There are food traps on the bottom of the dishwashers, they need cleaning every so often. If not, you get food scraps on dishes and racks.

Clean out the bottom under the water sprayer (sump) or check the inlet water solenoid.

Sounds like the sprayer isn't working. Look here for your make/model: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=dishw...

Your filter or water jets could be plugged. How long since you cleaned them?

If the answer is "never"... call a professional for a maintenance visit and an assessment of what is wrong.

For how you describe it, could it be that a few times cleaning out all that food gunk from it was not done, and all that food be clogging the gears for the spinning arms of water? You say it sounds like water runs, but you do not say if you catch it at the end, look, and see that water was run, but did not clean? All around the planet any more, cities are treating their water with a huge excess of calcium so that old people will not fall and break a hip or something. That calcium builds up and clogs gears like mentioned before. For that, pull the dishwasher out and disconnect the water from the machine and look inside the machine for deposits of ugly white that would be calcium build up.

Kenmore machines really are supposed to be some of the best, but when the water we drink is mistreated, like with that calcium excess, it is a whole lot of bad news. Another thing to try is to spin the water arms yourself, and if they feel all gritty, that would be the calcium if not foods too. If they don't move at all, then force them a tiny bit, don't go too hard with it. That would crunch up the calcium and it would all come out in the water. If it isn't fixed after checking all of these, then you will have to call in a professional.

The jets that spray water are clogged with lime. Try running several empty cycles with CLR Lime and Rust Remover in the rinse aid compartment.
