How far north do palm trees grow in the United States?

Is it Northern California on the west coast and North Carolina on the east?

There is a type of Non-fruit bearing Palm Tree that can grow the entire length of the West Coast of the USA. There are several in my neighborhood in Southern Oregon. Fruiting Palm Trees, like Coconut and Date won't grow farther north than Redding Calif.

It is called a Palmetto and is hardy to -24 f. A taller cold weather Palm Tree is called Windmill Palm and is cold hardy to 5 f.

At least one kind of palm tree grows as far north as Vancouver BC. The east coast is colder, so they aren't going to grow that far north there.
