Can taking too much Tylenol make it look like Hepatitis?

I got lab results back from the doctor today, and they mentioned low liver enzymes. Something about a weak liver, I don't remember exactly.

She mentioned Hepatitis, and I dont recall if it was a,b, or c. Then told me to stay away from Tylenol and we can retake in a month, and if it is still weak then screen for Hep.

I mentioned to her I have been taking tylenol like candy this past week. 1800-3000 a day. I had a tooth infection which was then extracted and some lower back pain. Could it be the excess of meds I have been taking making my liver weak and having them think it is Hep? She still wants to test in a month, but I hope its more likely this that not.

Thanks.

Taking large doses of tylenol can injure your liver resulting in the low liver enzymes reflected in your blood test.

If this is only because of the tylenol, then your liver should go back to normal after you stop taking tylenol.

However if your liver enzymes are still low after the retest then it MIGHT be hepatitis.

More than likely, your results are simply because of the tylenol but your doctor just wants to be sure. Untreated, hepatitis can be very serious.

It could but more likely is it wipes out your liver and you need a transplant. Stop taking the tylenol!!!

Your liver will process the meds. The reason your doc told you to stay off is because your liver is weak. You are damaging your liver.

No. Because Acetaminophen accelerates liver function, not decreases it. Your test result would be just the opposite had it been an issue with Acetaminophen abuse.
