Why do the religious seem to struggle to understand the difference between a fact and an assertion?

I hear many assertions about their 'god' and whatnot, but no actual facts. Every time I point out the difference, they get awfully defensive...

Unless you start with God, there isn't any such thing as facts!

    1) Why do the religious seem to struggle to understand the difference between a fact and an assertion?

    They're not the only ones.

Obviously (to one who knows the standard English meanings of both words) many assertions are statements of fact.

    2) I hear many assertions about their 'god' and whatnot, but no actual facts.

How do you KNOW that you are not hearing facts?

If that assertion you have just made were true, it would mean that you are far more knowledgeable about that subject than is any other human on Earth.

Faith and information are not good friends.

What is a fact? Why does science disagree on their facts? The bottom line, people for the most part believe what they want to believe. Some cigarette smokers believe that smoking is not harmful. Some conspiracy orient people think that Elvis is still alive. Still others believe that the earth is flat. This confusion comes from people looking for "evidence" to support what they want to believe.

In reality, no one really struggles between facts, but only hoping their opinions are correct. The Bible and all things in it are so easily validated by objective science that man is without excuse.

The FACT of the matter is this.YOU have NO evidence of God. That does NOT mean the world is void of evidence.

They don’t have any facts. Facts are things that can be seen, measured, or duplicated.

I can see the sun.. that the sun exists is a fact. I can measure gravity... it accelerates objects at 9.81 m/s^2 and has a constant of 6.67*10^-11 m^3 kg^-1 s^-1. I can duplicate the process of evolution by editing the genes in a fruit fly, selective breeding, using radiation to cause gene mutation, and seeing the more resilient beings survive in nature.

God and religion has none of those. That’s why it’s called ‘faith’.

Most people who understand the difference are not religious anymore.

Why do Atheists struggle to distinguish between religions?

Does it simply reveal their heart choice and refusal to use their minds and reason? or are they really that stupid?

    Facts don't apply to religions
