How do I stop being terrified of death?
I'm not very old; I'm 16.
But I worry about dying almost every night. It's to the point where I struggle to sleep because I'm so scared thinking about dying and what it's like after death.
I even start to cry thinking about not existing forever and the world just being pitch black forever and ever- all of eternity.
This fear plagues me and it creates intense emotions in my body. My heart always starts beating extremely fast when I think about it.
How can I stop myself from thinking about it so much? How do I stop being afraid of death?

You are dying everyday and rise up in the morning. You do not know what happens when you sleep. Death is a permanent sleep without a dream. You are alive only when you are in an awakened state. Life is realizing your presence in some form on this earth. You should not give room to unnecessary thoughts in your mind. If you do you will become a slave to your own thoughts and you will lose peace of mind. Mind control is most important.
Fear is a spirit. People possessed by this spirit always fear even without a reason. Human beings are ruled by spirits but humans must learn to control and rule the spirits. Spirits possess people according to the mental state of the human beings and keep them in the same state until they are rejected and replaced by another. This is an all time phenomena occurring in all humans. Human beings are always under the influence of spirits. Certain situations and circumstances causes the possession of certain type of spirits. Often thinking and talking about bad subjects or bad imaginations even for fun can take serious turns on one who think and talk. All spirits (good and bad) have the dominating character. They can take you to the extent of sacrifice or suicide.
All of your activities, talks and even thoughts determine what kind of spirits you will have for your life. Only these spirits are the reason for the good and bad happening in your life. Generally spirits determine your destiny from your daily activities, talks and thoughts too. All knowledge, skills, emotions, feelings, interests and everything are spirits. Even thoughts are not your own. For example, when you want to take a decision on a subject, one after another they think and you just listen and choose or reject the ideas which they transmit to your mind through your brain in the form of thoughts. A human being during his/her lifetime is living with many spirits which have joined one by one since birth. All human beings are just unprogrammed robots made of flesh, bones, tissues etc., by birth and toys of the spirits for their games.
You must not leave your mind in it's own way. If you do, the spirit will take your mind for it's own, then controlling it is not so easy. First of all you must think and believe that it's not you. Then you must command that spirit both mentally and orally to go. Whenever you are possessed by that thought you must divert your mind at once towards some other subject and stay in it for a while and then continue your duty. This is a mental exercise. You may also bring at once an opposite feeling through your imagination that you will live forever and death cannot touch you. You must continue this exercise for few days. While doing this exercise you are creating an opposing spirit, i.e., a positive force. Soon this new spirit gets stronger and eliminates the negative force. Within a few days you will be alright.

The answer lies in convincing yourself to be as EQUALLY terrified of death as you are terrified of where you were for the trillions of years before you were born

Well it's because you know you're not secure in the after life...
no offense
But why be so full of uncertainty and anxiety
And straight up fear ?
When you can put your faith into being something, someone for the best
"Every soul will taste death" -Quran
I know a lot of people Hate on this religion but if you really got to study it, you would feel content and sense of personal pride, knowing that in the after life things are secured
Idk I advise you to explore religion and I feel like these are the only things in life that can help someone feel calmer
Everyone and everything in this life is tepomrary
Nothing is guaranteed
So why waste your life on things that won't last
Put your whole heart and faith into something more than this life
So when you die, you won't be that afraid

The Bible actually clears all of that up. Jesus Christ himself said that death is like sleep. (John 11:11-14) Sleeping persons are not doing anything. They are just asleep in a state of inactivity. Furthermore, Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10 says, "For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing at all, nor do they have any more reward, because all memory of them is forgotten... Whatever your hand finds to do, do with all your might, for there is no work nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom in the Grave, where you are going." This backs up what Jesus said by saying that a dead person is not anywhere and does not do anything. He is just dead.
In other words, death is the opposite of life. If you've ever gone under full anesthesia where you are just sleep without any dreams, that is what death is like. When I went under, I didn't remember anything but counting backwards before I went under and waking up. I didn't even know that four hours had passed. If you go to sleep every night, then death is nothing to fear. The Bible clearly teaches that there is no afterlife. However, just like I was awakened from the anesthesia, the dead also will have an opportunity to be awakened to live forever on the earth after it is turned into a paradise. In fact, Jesus Christ said, "Most truly I say to you, the hour is coming, and it is now, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who have paid attention will live... Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment." - John 5:25, 28, 29; compare Psalms 37:9-11, 29; Acts 24:15.
So don't be afraid of death. It's really not what many people say it is, and there is no afterlife. For more information, check out https://www.jw.org/en/publications/magazines/wp201... .

Death is inevitable but the fact that your so scared of it is good in the sense that it will develop conscience in you and encourage you to do good deeds in the world. But you shouldn't be too scared because even though no body knows when your time comes it is still expected to be very far away. Till then you can just relax

It's not unusual at your age you know. It's a well known phenomenon, as it's around 16 that human beings first become aware of their own mortality. There are two ways to deal with it. One is to just get busy and push it to the back of your mind, (and an awful lot of people prefer that), whilst the other is to accept the reality that we all have a time span on earth, and that life is uncertain, so we don't know how long we'll be here, but live every single day as if it might be your last without worrying about when that day will actually be.
As a very old lady of 70, I can tell you that, as you get older, your fear of death will diminish to the point that you are pretty much ready to go when the time comes for you. I acknowledge happily now that millions of people have done this thing before me, including every dead famous person you can name. Death. It's just part of life really, and by the time you've really lived life, (which you almost certainly will get to do), you'll find it's not that wonderful thing you hope it will be when you are lucky enough to be 16 and just starting out on your journey. Life's full of hurt, disappointment and unfairness, as well as being exciting and enjoyable at other times. Just enjoy the ride and let tomorrow take care of itself.

Embrace it. The only problem is... you become numb to anything pertaining to it.
