Why are planes flying so low today in FL. And plase no stupid anwers I am scared.?

    There is nothing to be scared about.

    Planes fly at the altitude that the air traffic controller tell them to be at.

    The weather, wind direction, other traffic and cloud cover will dictate the flight paths and altitude.

    It was very loud, much more so than any time I've ever heard. I've lived near several AFBs and NASs. It went on for more than 30 minutes. Guess I just got spooked.

    Planes follow different flight paths depending on day, weather, construction at the sirport and other factors.

    Well, not knowing where you are but could be any number of reasons including that you live near an airport and they are coming in for a landing.

    It used to take me over six hours to drive from St. Mary's River north of Jacksonville to Punta Gorda, just north of Fort Myers. The point is that Florida is a big state. It would help to know where you are for us to answer the question.

    The thicker atmospheres of the planet have all dropped about 3000 feet, which means that the atmosphere is going through a whole lot of changes. If you believe this at all, I have a bridge to sell you.

    Are there lots of storms in the area? That can affect the level that a plane is cleared to fly at.
