How can I convince my parents to let me stay home from vacation on Thursday?

I am 19 years old, but I don't want to go on a vacation I won. Whenever I go on vacation, I get homesick and always have to have ride in a plane home. I cry whenever I get homesick, and my dad calls me a 2 year old when I cry when I am homesick, and I am 19 years old, not 2. I told my parents that I don't want to go to Florida, but my parents won't believe me and say no. I am not going to invite any boys over to sleep with until when I am married, and I am not going to have any parties when my parents are not home because I know that parties without the parents being at home is wrong. I don't drink alcohol until when I am 21, and I don't use drugs. I tried telling my parents that I am going to live at grandma's if they don't let me stay home with a family member, but my parents said no. I am 19, so I really want to stay home from vacation on Thursday. It is to Florida for a few days, and I don't like going away. How can I convince my parents to let me stay home from vacation? Can you help?

Thanks.

If you cry over not being home then how are you going to function when you have to move out? Cry some more? He's right to call you a two year old since you cry for attention and won't stop.

I'm with the others. You need to grow up and get some help mentally.

You may be 19, Merissa, but you are severely emotionally IMMATURE, and probably too immature to be trusted alone by yourself. The fact that you can't stay alone for more than a few minutes or hours, even when you ARE at home, is a sign that you have some pretty serious emotional and psychological issues that need to be addressed. When was the last time you saw your DOCTOR, Merissa? Or talked to a mental health professional about the issues you have with traveling and with separation anxiety? Because that's what you're dealing with. Homesickness is a kind of separation anxiety. Most of us get over that phase by the time we hit our teen years, and usually long before we reach college age the way you have. It's unhealthy and unnatural for you to be so childishly dependent on your parents. I got over my "homesickness" when it came to traveling when I was about 10 or so, simply because I did it so much as a kid. I've been all over the US, to Canada several times as a child and teen, and to Mexico once. Traveling is a very life enriching experience which helps one to see the world and its people in a different light.

You sound more than a little spoiled, too. Your parents have been babying you, and I have no idea why they would put up with your whining like this. Your dad is right. You need to GROW UP and stop acting like such a baby. If you live in your parents' house, you need to abide by THEIR RULES. That means you go to Florida with them for the Easter holiday, and you quit complaining about it, or you can feel free to leave and go stay in a homeless shelter until you find a job and a place of your own to live in.

Sorry, but I side with your father on this one. Why enter a contest or drawing if you didn't want the prize? Why are you so closed to a brief new experience away from home? It's not rational to cry with homesickness whenever you're away; you're at an age when you should be separating from family, not clinging.

Sell the trip, if you can, and use the money for therapy.
