I live in the U.S., and I'm wondering if it takes less time to receive Canadian funds by Paypal versus by check.?
I would like to clarify the question. Would the paypal payment in CAD take significantly less time to clear than a check in CAD deposited at a U.S. bank?

That depends on if your bank directly handles foreign currency exchanges. The ONE thing that is certain is the check won't clear any faster than the PayPal transaction.
IF the bank handles currency exchanges IN HOUSE, the check deposit MAY clear as quickly as the PalPal transaction. Of course, that ignores the time to physically receive the check and take it to your bank.

Of course it takes less time.
Even without considering the amount of time before the check actually clears, paypal is still beating even Fed Ex.

I live in the UK and when doing jobs for people in the US, paypal payments are instant between countries
