how to get shade on my porch? The patio umbrellas don t work, too windy in my area -?

    You could use an arbor with a vining plant or a retractable awning.

    Try a trellis, or if you want something less permanent you could try porch curtains. They were popular when I was little, so maybe due a revival. They were made from awning canvas and anchored top and bottom on a cable so they could be drawn or moved along to where they were needed as the sun moved throughout the day, handy for blocking wind too.
