Drinking out of mouldy drink bottle for about a year?

Hey everyone,

I've been drinking out of a mouldy drink bottle without knowing it for about a year.

It's a stainless-steel drink bottle, but there's a water tight ring of plastic on the lid that makes it so water doesn't spill out. It being stainless steal, it doesn't get washed in washing machine, or at all. I just re-fill it with water. Anyway, I've noticed a weird blackish-green ring on the inner-side of the plastic ring for many months, thought little of it unfortunately.

I showed my dad today and he assured me that it was mould, which means i've been drinking from this drink bottle, that has been un-washed (only rinsed with water basically everyday) and has mould in it for around a year.

Recently I've been getting these odd mental blanks, like i'll start saying something and then i'll forget what i'm saying, and I looked it up and it says that mould can cause memory issues. (of course i know that there are many possible reasons for this)

Anyway, i'm wondering if prolonged INGESTION of mould can cause problems?

    oh for petes sake, relax.

Wash the damn thing and move on with your life.

You seriously never washed it for a whole year???

    AND you are still alive.

    You are probably fine.

I suggest you toss the bottle and in the future, do a regular washing and a periodic bleach soak of your water bottle.

As this has developed over time, your body has likely adjusted to whatever is on the bottle. Our bodies have an amazing capacity for healing and resolving physical issues. If they didn’t the human race would not have survived.

If you haven't gotten sick yet, chances are good that you won't.

I'd say see a dr. and bring the bottle with the mold if it is still in it just in case... If you have symptoms it should probably go away.
