Is it a bad decision to take a job and work only 30 hrs/week to make room to do freelance work and to work on my passion project?

The job I am up for allows me to work a minimum of 30 and still get benefits.

I am also freelancing part time and can make up some of that money. But I d still be making $10,000 less a year because of it.

That said, this schedule gives me room to work on my other side passions (such as the freelance work), while having a position for a job that I really do like.

I don t have to worry about rent/utility payments at the moment, and so most of the money I would be saving up for when I will need to worry about that. I also have student loans to think about.

What are your thoughts?

Try it out for a while. If your free lancing work starts paying off, then you can continue it. If after a sufficient amount if time it won’t work out, then you can maybe consider taking on more hours with your other job.

I have artist friends that have side jobs to pay the bills so that they have time to be artists and create. For one of my friends - it’s really working out. She is getting a bunch of side gigs and commissions. She just might get to the point where she can quit her day job. Another of my friends tried to make a go at it as an artist but it didn’t work out and she ended up running restaurants and liquor stores. But she’s happy.

You owe it to your self to at least try and see how it goes. Give yourself enough time.

If it makes you happy, go for it.
