Would you object to showing ID at the polling stations?

I think it's a brilliant idea.

The only ones who object are those who want people to vote who are not entitled to.

I had thought that would not be bad, and it turns out that probably a couple of thousand non-citizens vote every year. THEN my mother lost her wallet. To get new driver lice, need a birth cert. To get a birth cert, you need a "real ID" driver's license. To get a new SS card, need a driver lic or DMV ID card. She would have been SOL b/c she's pretty much home bound now. My state Attorney General was told by the Koch Bro's to claim that hundreds of people voted illegally in my state. A year later?? NOBODY charged. Donnie tRump has claimed (lied) that busloads of people were hauled to out-of-state polling places. But NOBODY has turned up who says they road one of those busses. WHY NOT? If you road (for example) from KS city KS to KS city MO, how would you know what name to use? What precinct? It's just bulls hit. I think the weak spot is absentee voting, and I don't know how to keep that clean.

No but then again you need it for your drivers license, your passport, and when getting a loan.

    It already happens

Almost all states already required some form of ID before voting.

Not all require a government issued photo ID.

    There is a difference.

I vote by mail. No ID necessary.

It depends on what qualifies as ID and how easy it is to get it. Personally I have no problem with showing any ID I already have but I wouldn't want to see that as an additional artificial barrier to voting. There is a need to balance the need for security with the need to keep the barriers to voting as low as possible. Democracy only works when as many people as possible can and do vote.

P.S. - It's not the same as driving. Voting is a right, driving is a privilege. That is important to remember.
