My tap water was recently chlorinated. How long will it be before the water from the tap is free of the chlorine taste/smell?

It just started the day before I posted this. Not sure if that helps anything.

your tap water is constantly chlorinated, not sure why sometimes it tastes stronger than other times.

If you put water in an open pitcher in the fridge, the chlorine taste will be gone quickly, in 24 hours or less.

Chlorine evaporates. Fill a jug/s and leave it sit out for a while. Not sure about the rate of evaporation. When i lived in sydney we always had at least 2 jugs of water on the bench for drinking. Glad i've got tanks now. If they're chlorinating the water supply, it will always have chlorine in it when you turn on the tap.

Over dosing the water supply can only be fixed at the source.

As long as the Water Department, or Well Service puts too much in the water it will continue.

You need to address the supplier with your complaints.

Or as a last resort, install your own Water filters. A total annoyance as your water pressure will also drop without expensive storage (attic) tanks.
