Why are there two LC tanks, isn't one with spark gap and antenna in parallel enough?

    There is only one LC tank, the one on the right. The circuit on the left is a RC circuit. The resistor limits the current from the supply. The capacitor charges up and supplies a high current for the arc which discharges the capacitor.
