Who invented the remote control?

A very tricky thing to figure out!

I am reminded that in the early days of steam a man discovered a way to get his job done (turning valves off and on in sequence) with out being on the job- he as at the pub. That is remote control in a way.

So a lot depends on how one defines remote control.

While I guess it could be said it was invented- it actually is just the adaptation of existing inventions.

Are you referring to a remote control for a television or something else like guided missiles? Robert Adler began working for the Zenith Company in the 1940's and was granted patents for television remote controls. Tesla also worked on a remote device in the late 19th Century. You really need to do some research.
