Catholics If your parents and godparents shirk their promises to raise you a good Catholic, do you cease to be one?

    They are judged for their sins, and you are judged for yours.

    No. Godparents are supposed to assist in the formation of their godchildren, as are the parents of the children. If godparents shirk their responsibilities it is a shame, but it does not change the status of the child.

    No, you are still considered Catholic as long as you are baptized one. The church is always there for those who approach and need its guidance and help.
