'Latimer' disease? What's that?
If you mean Alzheimers then it is usually their short-term memories that fail first, then the mid-term or recent years ones, and finally their memories of their childhood and early adulthood. You can help them by reminding them of things they need to do today. You can sometimes make them feel happier by encouraging them to talk about what things were like when they were young. Patience and compassion are what helps.
