What was life like in the 1900's?
Right now, I'm starting to write a novel set in the early 19th century, 1906 to be precise. Although I am having a bit of trouble finding out some specifics about the time period. Is there a website or link or anything that can help me find out a little bit more about the time period. Things like:
-Newspapers popular in that time
-What the working men wore, tailors, clerks etc.
-The interior of stores, tailors would be helpful,
-Any other information would be awesome.
Thank you

you need to do some background research before you start writing. THere are lots of books on social history which will give you some ideas about life in that era. I had a look on Amazon, and there are a number of books on 1900s America which you might find useful, if you go on Amazon and write 1900s America in the search bar, you will find verbal books taht might be useful to you. there are also downloads of 1900s music for example, or you can find some on YouTube. NEwspapers of the era are obtainable also. reading books published in 1906 might also be a good idea, to give you some idea of what people enjoyed. SOme popular books from 1906 include White Fang by Jack London, Love Among the Chickens by P.G. WOdehouse, The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton, The Spoilers by Rex Beach, The Four Million by O.Henry, In the Days of the Comet by H.G. wells, Aunt Jane's Nieces by L.Frank Baum.

To get a fountain of information, look up the dates of certain amenities and inventions. Deodorant wasn’t even invented until the 1930s.

In Europe there was an arms race. When the British built the Dreadnought the first all big gun battleship all of the major powers started to build fleets of their own Dreadnoughts including the US. The Industrial revolution was going on and most European countries had colonies so there was the home life and the Colonial life and those living in Colonial lands often had maids and servants from the local population and live luxurious lives. The morals were still the strict Victorian attitudes very strict and a double standard. Woman who strayed were condemned and outcasts whereas men could have mistresses and people looked the other way or just accepted it. Then in America in the roaring twenties morals loosened up and women who were called flappers wore short skirts drank and dance a lot to hot jazz music and their sexual morals were quite loose. World war one showed that woman could work in industry as they made bombs and bullets in factories in England. You can see what the fashion was like by visiting sites that show the attire of the day but n the early part of the century women wore full length dresses and lots of lace and fancy hats.

This was before radio, and the only records were wax cylinders and 78s, so sheet music was the popular medium.

Everything was black and white until Walt Disney came along with his Wonderful World of Color.
It was totally amazing - you had to be there.
