Files disappeared from portable hard drive?
I'm having issues with my Maxtor 1TB hard drive. I've been using it as a back up for data I use at work as well as old uni notes and presentations. However i've started noticing over the past few weeks, some appeared to have gone missing. However it's just the case on my Mac, whenever I view them there some folders have just disappeared.
I know they haven't disappeared off my drive as the drive's storage space hasn't decreased by the amount of the folder (which was several GB so large enough for me to notice the change). I can access the files fine when I connect it to my TV for some reason. Can anyone provide any help to allow me to access from my Macbook again?

"Maxtor 1TB hard drive.... some folders have just disappeared."
Unfortunately, there is no button to click in OS X to make invisible folders reappear.
Take the drive to a shop that has a PC. Ask them to test it. If the folders are there, copy them to another drive.
If the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended, use Disk Utility in OS X to repair it.
If the drive is formatted NTFS, use Windows to repair it.
If the drive is formatted FAT-32, copy all files off of it, and format it Mac OS Extended (FAT formats are ancient history, and not suitable for any large drive volume).
