    if I remember correctly, The Mississippi rolls down to the sea....

    Indeed downwards as all rivers flow downwards. In geographical terms as defined by humans, broadly from north to south.

    For the entire Mississippi river, north to South, BUT depending on WHERE you are along the Mississippi river, PARTICULARLY IN GREATER NEW ORLEANS, the Mississippi can be glowing west to east because the Mississippi MEANDERS./ I GREW UP in New Orleans AND the Oklahoma panhandle. The direction in New Orleans are to and from the lake, to and from the river, uptown and down town. you are still gong "downtown when you cross Canal st. and drop off into the industrial canal, and then until you drop off into lake Borgne, which really is a bay, not a lake. There are TWO industrial canals. on on the east bank and one on the west bank..

    South. Of course, it meanders, but generally speaking, it flows from north to south because that's the way gravity takes it being that the Gulf of Mexico is at a lower elevation than Minnesota.
