How to setup rise of the triad on dos?
Hi im trying to setup rise of the triad on actual dos how do i do I have a win 98 that has ms-dos I can run the run the game, but once I select the difficulty it crashes and i get an error message. Error opening SOUND.ROT: permission denied. I have a sound blaster audio card

It's difficult to work out without hands-on testing...
Try the Creative Labs patch from this site:

Newer sound blaster cards may not appear the same to programs as the originals from the DOS era; old software assumes each program can directly access all the machine hardware, while the newer standard assumes all software works via the system drivers and "user" programs do not have any direct access to hardware devices.
Unless the whole machine is from the correct era, it may just not work...
Alternates are using a newer executable such as winrott (info here)

They are both "The original game", the same game data etc., just an updated executable that can work with more modern hardware.
