Is the USA really in a constitutional crisis?

I know a lot of people love or hate President Trump but is America any more divided than other times in history, think about Kennedy and de segregation where the National Guard literally faced off the US paratroopers, the Cuban missile crisis and his ultimate assassination, which rumours continue to circulate. Or what about Nixon the Vietnam War, collapse of Bretton Woods and watergate? Is it as bad today as many make out

The difference today is the media. There has always been rhetoric, personal attacks and such. There have always been the flocks that blindly follow and defend their guy. The media has always had personal slants but it was on the rare occasion that national media personal, would allow those slants to shade their stories. That has grown right along with this instant communication lifestyle that we all now enjoy. It really took off a year or two after the war started. Opinion being touted as fact, definitions of things like WMD's suddenly changed to fit whatever point one wished to make. It has steadily gotten worse throughout the Obama years ending in this fake news BS in which multiple main stream news organizations apologized for participating in, in dec of 2016. Odd thing though, they admitted to and apologized for spreading fake news, yet the vast majority of followers deny their media ever mislead. That disconnect is the even larger issue, those that deny their media is doing exactly what they accuse the other guy of.

America is currently under attack by the fact-intolerant far right. To them, egos are more important than their country.

Yes. We've been in the center of a massive constitutional crisis since Bush, when Congress gave the president the power to start war whenever he deemed fit, completely nullifying the War Powers Clause and its purpose put there by the founders.

"The constitution supposes, what the History of all Governments demonstrates, that the Executive is the branch of power most interested in war, and most prone to it. It has accordingly with studied care vested the question of war to the Legislature."

    - James Madison

"This system will not hurry us into war; it is calculated to guard against it. It will not be in the power of a single man, or a single body of men, to involve us in such distress; for the important power of declaring war is vested in the legislature at large."

    - James Wilson

But Congress has nullified this by giving the president a blanket ability to go to war in the name of "terrorism". Obama can destroy a sovereign nation like Libya without Congressional approval, Trump can drop bombs on a soveriegn nation like Syria without Congressional approval.

This directly goes against the intention of the War Powers Clause, and the results were just as the founders expected. We were in 2 wars under Bush, 7 wars under Obama, and now 8 wars under Trump. These numbers will simply continue to grow as long as one man is allowed to put us into war.

I have never seen the press, and the government so propagandized as it is today. I am convinced that US government does not have the peoples best interests in mind...only their own. Wether or not it's constitutional or not is another matter.

The Constitution has been under assault from progressives for the past century, ever since that self-destructive and foolish 17th Amendment was ratified.

But Trump does seem to be trying to save the Constitution, especially after the depredations of the previous administration.

No.. today Americans are too fat and entitled to actually act on their beliefs in a mass movement sort of way.

The division comes from the Left. They refuse to accept the results of a presidential election.

We we're on a good track until Obama won. Blacks were given all kinds of special treatment
