He blocked me due to family problems... he unblocked me saying he has been thinking about me?

I've been talking on and off with this guy for 6 months, he asked me out on a date a few weeks back and when I agreed he blocked me off all social media so I couldn't get a hold of him, he never gave me an explanation I never done anything all I did was agree to meet him. A week later he unblocked me and said he had a lot of stuff going on at home with his family, he wouldn't say what but I respected his privacy. He said he felt really bad and that he had been 'thinking about me loads' and saying how he wanted to take me out for dinner to make up for his behaviour. I told him how he made me feel when he just blocked me from everything with no explanation, I blamed myself for some reason and he said again 'I've been thinking about you loads lately I genuinely feel so bad if I have hurt your feelings in anyway' I told him I didn't wanna get hurt and all he replied was 'fair enough' and ever since we haven't really spoken again. I really do like him but I feel like he's just stringing me along and thinks he can pick me up and drop me when it suits. He said how much he likes me well if he really likes me why is he behaving in such manor??
