Who can give me an intelligent answer as to why Kennedy retired from SCOTUS, other than to help his banker son?

Please don't say because he was old and ready to do so. It is a fact that he had already hired his staff for the next term, so he had not planned his retirement at this time.

He doesn't NEED a reason other than his own desires. And what if he is going to help his banker son?

Nobody should have to give a reason why they retire at 81.

Actually a mandatory retirement age and a limited tenure on the supreme court would both be a good idea.

Help his banker son and give Trump and the Right wing control of the Supreme Court. Truly a dark and twisted soul if he can't see the horrible ramifications of his actions.

    1. He's 81 years old.

    2. He was a SC Justice for 30 years.

    3. He can do whatever he wants.

    4. Stop crying.

He trusted that Trump would make a selection who was up to his standards. He also wanted to get out before the left-wing nut-balls had a chance to force his replacement to be a possible member of the liberal collective.

He had been thinking about retiring but he did not in 2017 because he thought Trump may appoint a conservative who will overturn gay marriage, because the 4 cons in SCOTUS right now did not like it when Kennedy joined the libs and approved gay marriage. A new conservative justice is very likely to overturn gay marriage because there will now be 5 solidly conservative votes. Kennedy recently visited the WH and had a talk with Trump and shortly after that he announced his retirement. Trump probably assured Kennedy that he will pick a nominee who will not overturn gay marriage. Whether Trump will or can keep that promise is uncertain.
