When Obama legalized gay marriage, how come some states still prohibited? Doesn’t the president represent the states?

The states .. none of them .. can change a law. Laws are made by the congress and then the president signs them. Some things, like gay marriage, are NOT covered by law, they are RIGHTS guaranteed by the constitution. Sometimes the federal government ignores its responsibilities for a couple hundred years, like slavery, and like gay marriage. The feds just ignore it and the states pass laws to make things, like slavery, legal ... or things like gay marriage, illegal. Eventually someone appeals the law thru the court system and eventually some of these laws in FEDERAL COURT are ruled unconstitutional. The president has NOTHING to do with it. Republicans love to blame the legalization of gay marriage on Obama, but it is just a tactic to see if the uneducated will fall for the bs.
===== Trump is now using similar tactics against the real news media. He calls them the "Lame stream media" to try to belittle them when he does NOT want them to report on how big a crook he is. Remember Trump University?? Not a real university, just a scam.

Obama didn't legalize gay marriage, the Supreme Court did. No states prohibited it, it was national law. Some PEOPLE in certain states refused to issue marriage licenses, and they were censured or fired because of their refusal, and they were replaced by people who had sworn to uphold the law.

Gay marriage is and should be a law reserved to the States and the People, respectively,
If you live in a State whose residents universally oppose gay marriage, you're so free, nothing in this State can bind you from marrying...outSIDE this State.

Obama didn’t legalize gay marriage, the constitution did. Some states disagreed, but the Supreme Court decided they were wrong. Yes, it happened during his presidency, but President Obama didn’t personally sign a law or anything.
