He asks me out on dates then cancels last minute?

I’ve been talking to this guy on and off for 8 months now. When he first started talking to me I had a lot of personal stuff going on. He asked me out on a date 6 times, he knew I was getting treated badly off this guy and he said to me ‘I promise I’d never treat you like that, I’m a gentleman. Let me take you out for dinner’ he asked me out quite a bit. He kept saying how I was good looking and funny. The moment I finally agreed to go on a date with him he blocked me from all social media for just over a week. I was left confused blaming myself then he added me back and said he had family issues with his dad and he panicked because I seemed interested in him and he didn’t want anything serious at the time. I was skeptical but chose to believe him. He asked me out for dinner a few days later but I played it cool and told him I was busy. A few weeks later he asked me if I was busy one day & I said no then he asked me if I wanted to go out a drive in his car, I said yeah that sounds good then the very next morning after he asked me he said ‘can’t do Sunday watching football with pals’ I tried confronting him asking him why he always cancels last minute and makes up excuses and he said to me ‘seems like you’ve made your mind up about me’ now he only speaks on and off. Why is he acting all weird??
