My guess is that your 3rd shift is midnight to 8 AM. In which case chances are good that your body clock is not in sync with your sleep cycle. For most people the urge to sleep is greatest a couple hours after noon and a couple hours after midnight.

So during the 3rd shift your body wants to crash right in the middle of the shift. But you can't because you're working. So you get off work tired and in need of sleep.

But you have obligations that require you to be awake...like appointments with people who are on normal work shifts like 9 to 5. Or if you do get to sleep right after work, it is a fitful sleep because your natural body clock says those morning hours right after you get off work are your most wakeful hours.

Recommend you read https://sleepfoundation.org/sleep-topics/sleep-dri... for more on what probably ails you.

We are unable to help you make more money as we do not know what a 3rd shift machinist with 4 years of experience makes wherever you live.

If they interest you; try HVAC or being an electrician or plumber. In the next few years, an average one (doesn't need to be great) can name their own price.
