Can a laptop cooling fan demand so much power that it starves the system of power, causing power failure computer shutdown?

With frequent shutdowns, especially when on line, of my Inspiron 1525 running on and powering lap cooler, I’ve also added ac fan blowing at computer top about 18inches away. I’m considering a larger, 5-fan lap pad but it occurs that powering the 4 extra fans will only add to PC power demand, and make shutdown problem worse.

If your internal cooling fan has stopped, or all your cooling vents are clogged up with dust and lint, no amount of external cooling fans will help your laptop. Period. You must make sure the inside cooling system is working at top performance before considering external fans.

Laptops shut down when internal heat gets too high. You have to address the internal cooling first....

Last time I saw that much cooling power on a computer the system was the size of a room. It was in the 1970s. Maybe it’s not a cooling issue.

I think you need to look at why it's shutting down rather than just adding fans...

Is it overheating? You can check system temps with something like Speccy. If it is then you've probably got plugged dust vents or a dead fan inside the laptop. If you just got those fixed you wouldn't need all this extra external cooling.

Fans can draw a few watts, but it shouldn't add a lot of heat, but it really depends on what is going wrong with your laptop.
