Are animal clinical trials always done through the veterinary hospitals?
My in laws dog recently got diagnosed with lymphoma. He’s only 6. We can’t afford the chemo and according to the vet, the recent medication he’s been on would make chemo less effective. They agreed that if I could find a local clinical trial that that is testing on dogs they’d be willing to sign him up. The only veterinary clinical trial I found for lymphoma is currently on hold until further notice. The veterinary school agreed to contact me once it starts again.
There are several human research hospitals within a 50 mile radius of where we live. I know most drugs and treatments are tested on animals before they are tested on humans. Is the animal testing on dogs and cats done through the veterinary schools or do the hospitals do the tests themselves with the aid of veterinarians?

Don't know, but you could ask them couldn't you, once you locate a clinical trial, or do you have a speech impediment? Then write it down and hand your questions to them, do your own research, as YA isn't research, and it may vary from from area to area, this is after all the World Wide Web....
IMO I would not subject a dog to this, I would opt for euthanasia, but that's not my decision to make, your dog/your decision.

Veterinary clinical trials is not the same thing as animal testing before it is used on humans.
The testing done before used on humans is used with a controlled group of animals.. Not your pet.
The "veterinary clinical trials" are essentially the same.. The drug has ALREADY been tested on a controlled group.

Clinical Trails are NEVER done through local animal hospitals or vet offices. They are ONLY DONE through VET SCHOOLS who apply for Grants, and who are STOCKED with vet students. The NCSU Vet hospital has done a number of cancer and epilepsy related studies that have GONE ON to be helpful, in human medication studies, but I am sure - they are not the only such school.
Unfortunately Lymphoma is a fast moving cancer, and you cannot wait, if there is no clinical trial. You either BORROW the money to treat the dog, or choose other therapy options, such as acupuncture, holistic dietary changes to slow the cancer spread, or simply, palliative care.
